Byte Converter (KB, MB, GB, TB)
Convert between digital storage units instantly. Supports both binary units (KiB, MiB, GiB — powers of 1024) and decimal units (KB, MB, GB — powers of 1000).
How it works
- Decimal (SI): 1 KB = 1,000 bytes · 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes · 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes
- Binary (IEC): 1 KiB = 1,024 bytes · 1 MiB = 1,048,576 bytes · 1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes
Storage manufacturers advertise decimal sizes; operating systems often report binary sizes. That’s why a “1 TB” drive shows as 931 GiB on Windows.

FAQ
Why does my 256 GB SSD show only 238 GB? The drive is sold using decimal GB (256,000,000,000 bytes), but your OS reports binary GiB (256,000,000,000 ÷ 1,073,741,824 ≈ 238 GiB).
What’s the difference between MB and MiB? MB is decimal (10^6 bytes); MiB is binary (2^20 bytes). Same size, different base.
